What is CSGO Overwatch?

Within CounterStrike Global Offensive there’s a system to regulate the community called csgo Overwatch. Csgo Overwatch allows qualified and experienced players to review reports of disruptive reports, hacking, and throwing. These investigators scored players decide whether the reports are valid or not by watching the clips themselves and if appropriate, apply temporary bans even if the suspect is griefing.

How does Overwatch work?

How are the investigators selected?

What are the possible outcomes after the investigation?

After the investigation is done, the investigator is given 4 charges with 2 verdicts each and is asked to choose. First, let’s see the charges,

• Major Disruption: Aim Assistance

 This is the charge given when the suspect is seen using external third-party software to enhance their aim to have an edge over others. Basically, hacking.

• Major Disruption: Vision Assistance

            This charge is given when the suspect is seen using wallhacks that let the player know the exact positions of the opponents leading to kills through smokes for an easy win.

• Major Disruption: Other External Assistance

This charge is issued when the suspect uses other means to gain an advantage

other than the ones listed above. This includes automated scripting, speed hacking, upside-down views, etc.

• Minor Disruption: Griefing

            This charge is issued when the suspect throws the game for others. This might be damaging the teammates, AFKing on purpose, purposefully giving out team information to the enemy, and wanting the team to lose, etc.

Now for the verdicts, there are two options under each category.

• Insufficient Evidence:

            When the Investigator is not 100% sure if the Suspect is disrupting the game, Insufficient Evidence is chosen. You don’t want to ban a very skilled player who isn’t hacking.

• Evident Beyond & Reasonable Doubt:

            When the Investigator is 100% sure about the Suspect, he can choose this verdict based on the charge. If the suspect is blatantly hacking, immediately ban him.

What do I do if I receive a minor ban?

A minor ban is issued for disruptive behavior and griefing in-game and this lasts for 30 days. For the 30 day duration, you won’t be able to play in VAC-secured servers. You will not be able to trade or market your CSGO items.

After your account is unbanned after 30 days, you will be able to play again in VAC-secured servers.

What do I do if I received a major csgo Overwatch ban?

A major ban is issued when you are collectively accused of cheating(ie, aim hacking and wallhacks). This is permanent and going forward, you will not be able to play in VAC-secured servers nor will the suspect be able to trade or market items in CSGO.

Note that griefers and cheaters don’t get the same punishment, it’s entirely based on the behavior.

Weightage of the verdicts:

In the case of mixed verdicts, the verdict of the Investigator with a higher csgo Overwatch score has more weightage than that of the verdict of an Investigator with a lower Overwatch score. A higher Overwatch score simply means that the investigator is more experienced and more dependable.

How do I increase my Overwatch score?

To increase your overwatch score, you will have to accurately judge your initial and henceforth investigations. that will help you in earning XP in counterstrike global offensive. Submitting accurate verdicts ensures that the investigator has more weight in further csgo community cases. This will add up to your csgo overwatch score and will give you more segments to investigate. After you reach a higher overwatch score, your verdict is given a higher weightage to.

How do I help if I’m not an investigator?

As a good player of the csgo community, all you can do is report players for disruptive behavior. These reports fill up the pool of cases that get reviewed by the investigators. To report a player, simply go to the scoreboard and click the report button, and stating the reason properly will help the investigator and don’t worry the griefers and cheaters will be dealt with only if there isn’t insufficient evidence. Won’t bad investigators give false verdicts?

Yes, they might but then it comes down to the ability of the observer. And it takes many investigators anyway so if one investigator makes a mistake, it might not affect much depending on the overwatch score. This is the reason why we have Overwatch scores.

Note that there is no difference between investigators who play in high, medium, and low skill groups.

What if I cheat to get retribution?

If you are cheating to get retribution and revenge, it’s still considered cheating no matter what and a reasonable verdict will be given based on the offense.
